My show team for Launceston Royal Show is slowly coming along with their work - the team is Guns'N'Roses, Gallipoli Mist (Polly), Gazelle & Guess. I had entered Finesse also but with the amount of work I need to do, kids etc I just can't put the work into a young bull, 3 heifers PLUS a heifer with new calf at foot. (And Paul still thinks 1 bull and 3 heifers is too many....) Finesse went last year to Launceston and was a little "twitty" and just wouldn't stand up properly - her attitude is pretty much the same this year so I guess she will just be a paddock cow and hopefully produce me a future show champion. I quite like her bull calf at this stage - he may stay a bull......
I have had a very SICK cow a few weeks back - Ebony decided to not eat, have an impacted rumen and then a high temperature. The vet came out twice, I gave twice daily antibiotics and gave her water via a stomach tube for about a week. I honestly thought I was going to lose her. I have not yet received the vet's bill yet but Ebony is such a sweet cow she is worth any amount! It was such a satisfying feeling with much relief when I put her back in the herd.
As soon as I have the last 3 calves on the ground I will be making decisions on who I will be selling - numbers are creeping up again so if you are wanting to be notified of my sale list please contact me!
The weather has been wet, wet, wet so I haven't taken any photos of late - as soon as I get some fine weather I will and will post them.
Till next time,
