Welcome to Goldshaft Dexter Stud
Goldshaft Dexter Stud was established in 1998 after the birth of our first Dexter, Goldshaft Millie. Our foundation cow, Buttons, a Jersey, after many unsuccessful attempts to calve unassisted to an Angus was finally mated to a local Dexter bull. Millie was the result and our addiction to Dexter cattle began. Our herd now consists mainly of Purebred Dexters, with a few Grade 3 cows. Buttons lives on in generations including a great, great, great granddaughter!
We first saw Dexter cattle at the Royal Adelaide Show & were immediately attracted to them due to their size.
Our aim is to breed true Dual Purpose Dexters, as close to the Breed Standard as possible. We are well aware there is no perfect animal but we enjoy the challenge at trying to get as close as possible!
We aim to inform you of all the great qualities of Dexter cattle, to answer any questions you may have, and assist in any way we can. We believe in being honest and open, educating about some genetic faults discovered in Dexter cattle which are only a problem if not managed. Many breeds have genetic issues which are easily managed and hopefully eventually bred out by responsible breeders.
Please bear with us while the wrinkles in our website get ironed out!
